Chapter 4: Three Types of Muscle Tissues Flashcards
A muscle is band of fibrous tissue that has the ability of?
Contraction
A contraction is stimulated by what?
By nerve impulses that triggers the movement of the muscle
What happens when the impulse of a contraction is removed?
The muscle relaxes back to its natural state.
The patter of contraction and relaxation is responsible for?
All the movements in the body
What are the three types of Muscle Tissues?
Skeletal, Smooth and Myocardial
What are Skeletal Muscles attached to?
To the bones and help limbs and other body parts to move.
The action of Skeletal Muscles is voluntary or involuntary?
Under conscious, voluntary and under control
Skeletal Muscles are also known as?
striated Muscles
What does the Skeletal Muscles look under the microscope?
Dark and light bands in the muscle fibers that create a striped appearance.
Why does Smooth Muscles have this name?
Because they don’t have Striations
What does Smooth Muscles makeup?

The action of Smooth Muscles are voluntary or involuntary?
Involuntary control, they are not consciously directed.
What does the Myocardial or Cardiac Muscles makeup?

What is the function of the Myocardial Muscles?
They are responsible for the forceful contractions of the heart.
The action of Myocardial Muscles are voluntary or involuntary?
Involuntary
