Chapter 4 Flashcards
Describe the characteristics of a child with SLI
artic and phonological problems
slow rate of lang acquisition
between 18 to 24 months
word finding problems and overextend/under
vague general words
morphological problems
telegraphic speech
T/F children with ID are delayed rather than deviant
T they follow the same sequence of language
smaller more concrete vocabulary
describe the three major types of CP
ataxic CP - disturbed balance awkward gait, uncoordinated movement (cerebellar)
athetoid CP- slow writhing involuntary movements (basal ganglia)
spastic CP- increased spasticity including stiff abrupt jerky movements
Goals for kids with ADHD include
auditory processing skills, pragmatics, and expressive language organization
MLU is
number of morphemes/ number of utterance
Explain TTR
number of diff words/ number of words
usually 1:2 ratio to assess semantics
Discrete Trials procedure is when
It is the most researched procedure, and it is useful in establishing target behaviors, but it may not promote generalization to natural settings.
you give a CH a stimulus pic, ask relevant Q, and immediately model response and reinforce correct imitation
explain the behavioral technique shaping
a complex response is broken down into smaller components that are taught sequentially to achieve the final target skill
Explain expansion vs extension
expansion is when you take an incomplete utterance into a more grammatically complete utterance
extension is when the clinician comments on the CHs utterances and adds new and relevant info
Focused stimulation
clinician models a target structure to stimulate the CH to use it. The clinician does not correct the CHs incorrect responses they JUST model it
Milieu Teaching
teaches functional communication skills through use of typical everyday verbal interactions naturally
includes incidental teaching, Mand model, time delay
