Chapter 12 Flashcards
describe the inductive vs deductive method
Inductive is experiment first and explain later approach
deductive is explain first and verify later approach
Validity is what
the degree to which an instrument measures what it purports to measure
describe predictive validity (criterion validity)
accuracy with which a test predicts future performance on a related task
concurrent validity is
the degree to which a new test correlated with an established test of known validity
construct validity is
test scores are consistent with theoretical constructs or concepts
content validity is
does it measure what it purports to measure - its based on expert judgment that a particular test purports what it measure.
Test-retest reliability
consistency of measures when the test is administered to the same people twice
alternate form reliability
form a and form b
split half reliability
measure of internal consistency of a test so first half test are correlated with the second half
interobserver or inter judge reliability
two or more observers agree in measuring an event
intraobserver and intrajudge reliability
the extent to which the same observer repeatedly measures the same event consistently
describe an independent variable vs dependent
independent variable is directly manipulating something (all treatments are independent variables)
dependent variables are the changes we expect to see
ex post factor research is
after the fact research is conducted
hawthorne effect is
a study’s results are affected by participants knowledge
Reactive or interactive effects are
pretest sensitizes the participants to the txt
