Listening
The process of receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating and responding to verbal or nonverbal message
Short term memory
Limited in capacity hold only a small amount of information
Long term memory
Unlimited capacity of storing information in brain
False memory syndrome
Memories of a traumatic episode, most commonly childhood sexual abuse, which are objectively false, but in which the person strongly believes.
Backchanneling cues
Message that let speaker know you’re paying attention as when you nod in agreement
Empathy
To see the world as they see it, to feel what they feel
Negative empathy
The understanding and/or sharing of others’ negative emotional states
Critical listening
Think logically and disapportionately about
Active listening
Being fully present in the conversation; Showing interest by practicing good eye contact
