Chapter 3 - Anti-Ice & Rain Flashcards
What is the consequence of a failure of the windshield wiper?
Revert to CAT I only.
Don’t use on dry surfac.e
How are the pitot, TAT and alpha vanes heated?
- What’s the power source?
Electronically, AC power.
What is the effect of a total loss of AC power on the pitot probe?
Only the Captain’s is heated by AC standby bus.
Light won’t illuminate for subsequent failures.
Which windows are heated?
L1, L2, R1, R2.
L3 and R3 are not.
Regarding the green window heat light, what happens on very warm days?
Extinguishes, as power is automatically removed if there is an OVERHEAT.
Where is engine bleed sourced from on the NG, and on the MAX?
5th and 9th stage of the engine compressor.
6th and 10th on the MAX.
How is the engine bleed system controlled and operated?
Controlled electronically, operated pneumatically
What is the effect of a COWL ANTI-ICE light?
Signifies duct pressure exceeds a certain limit.
What is the effect of the bleed valve failed closed?
Dispatch only to no known or forecast icing conditions
What is the effect of a bleed valve failed open?
More serious.
- CAT I only
- Minimum 50% N1 on the affected engine during icing
- Cannot be guaranteed with A/T
- Fuel penalty too.
How is the wing anti-ice system powered?
By AC.
What is the effect of selecting WAI in flight?
Changes stall logic for the remainder of the flight, regardless of position.
Above what FL should WAI not be used?
Above FL350 - bleed trip off & loss of cabin pressure is possible.
When is use of the WAI recommended?
During holding, moderate / severe icing.
