Q

What is the recovery for a bounced landing?

A

Hold / re-establish the normal landing attitude.

Add a little thrust to control rate of descent.

DO NOT CLOSE THRUST LEVERS TO IDLE -> COULD RESULT IN SPEEDBRAKES DEPLOYING

Q

Why should thrust levers not be reduced to idle?

A

Will deploy speedbrakes.

Effect of deploying speedbrakes will be pitch up motion, lift lost, leading to a hard landing or tail strike.

Q

What are the actions for a balked landing?

A

Advance thrust levers to go around thrust.

Verify speedbrakes are retracted.

Maintain landing flaps config, rotate to 15º pitch attitude, no less than VREF.

Once airborne, execute normal go-around procedure.

Q

What is the effect of selecting go-around flaps during a balked landing?

A
  • Decrease in lift, resulting in increased takeoff distance.
  • However, if it is a long runway and sufficient distance exists to complete with the go-around flap setting, can select it.
