Mesoamerica

A

a region of the Americas that included cultures like the Maya, Mexica, and Aztec. The region is mostley modern day mexico and Central America. The group of people living in Mesoamerica adapted to their surroundings and became agricultural societies instead of hunter/gatherers. the land provided resources like crops and animals to hunt.

Mexica/ Aztecs

A

1300ce 1500ce

They created the city of Tenochtitlan. the city was man made on lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan was their capital. Before establishing their capital city the mexica had made a name for themselves. The mexica were not liked by other mesoamerican societies. When the spanish conqured them, they had help from other tribes that disliked the mexica. Ultimatly their own actions lead to their down fall

Tenichtitlan

A

found on lake texcoco, it was the capital city of the Aztec world. the site was promision. The lake had fish and also allowed the Aztecs to build a city in the middle of it. The location of Tenochtitlan was an advantage too. The whole city was protected by water on it’s sides and guards monitored the three roads into the city.

Chinampas

A

they were plots of land made of the soil in Lake Excoco. also known as floating gardens. they were fertile and productive. they helped to improve the quality and quantity of food produced by the farmers. farmers didn’t have to worry about the dry season becasue water came from the lake.

Iroquis peoples

A

lived in the lands east of the Mississippi river. they lived in settled communities with agricultural conceprs. the villages were run by the women and the men delt with the hunting, fishing, and war. these people began to grow maize and beans which then became alarge part of their diet. many natives of north america were divided into many different societies based off the environments they lived in.

Inca Empire

A

1300-1500

located in the Andes mt. range. the people adapted to their surounding by carving steps into the side of the mountains called terraces. their other location in the vast empire was mostley conqured land. they were very strickt over their empire and ran a good military and strived for order amoung conqured people

Quipu

A

developed by the Incans. It was a system of knotted ropes that was used to recored things like stock, trade etc. This system took the place of a writing system. Quipu’s doubled as a census. they kept records of population, state property, taxes, and labor servives. it may not have been better than written script but quipus helped in running an organized empire

polynesian Chiefly states

A

the political method of running society in places like Hawaii and Tahiti. Chieds lead the society. the chief was a hereditary position. Chiefs had luxuries that were considired kapu (taboo) to other commoners. the chiefs controlled the government and organized affairs through out Polynesia. They controled the land and kept through out it.
