Steppes

A

Inhabated by the nomads. the land was aboundant with grass to feed the mongol tribes. Horses, camal, sheep, etc. The soil of the steppe lands was infurtle. This is why not many people live on the steppe lands. the mongles don’t farm, and move around when their livestock had eaten the lands resources.

A

1000s-1100s

conqured anitolia, mid. east and persia. The seljuk Turks became involved in the abbasid empire and the rich land of Anatolia. some turks even held governemtn rositions. by the time the ottomans came and captured Constantinople. the byzantine and christian anatolia were large Turkish and islaic areas because of the Seljuk influence

Temujin/ Genhi’s Kan

A

a mongle leader that quickley gained power by ehat ever means nessasary. he untited all the mongol tribes into a single confederation. his fallowers proclamed him leader and gave him the name Genghis Kan. (universal ruler)

Khubilai Kan

A

the grandson of Genghis kan and probably the smarter of his descendents. Khumilai Kan ruled over China and took an intrest in cultureal matters and the welfare of his subjects. He helped the spread of Buddhism, and supported Daoists, Muslims, and Christians living under his rule.

A

a fransiscan Missionary who set out to explore china. His report displayed the peculiarities of a mongolian life. His writings and observations is a helpful discription of life of mongols in central Asia. His report showed not only mongol life but also their customs and cultural ideas.

golden horde

A

named so because of the color of their yurts or tents. the mongols lived in. they mostley dwelled in the steppe lands north of the black sea. these mongols continuously raided Russia but didn’t inhabit it because they found the land unatractive. they retained their hold on the steppes until the late 18th century.

Ilkanate

A

established in persia, Khubilai’s brother extended his rule into syria and then was drove back by muslim forces in egypt. this disaloud the mongol expansion to the west. The mongols were skilled warriours but never knew how to govern the land they conqured. this flaw only let them rule for less than a cerntury

Northern China

The all of the dynasty was due to power struggles, imperial assassinations, and civil war. the mongols had no idea how to run a government and this lead to the fall of the most powerful mongol rule amoung the mongol tribes.

Tamerlane

A

He looked up to Genghis Kan. Tamerlane was a charismatic leader and a couragous warrior with loyal followers. he conqured lands that could provide him with money from taxes from trade and agricultural production. he also severly weakened the Golden Horde. He too could not govern the lands he conqured. He simply let the current governement live and just collect taxes

conqured anatolia, mid east. n africa and SE europe. the major acomplishment was the capture of constantinople. the city became Istanbul. The capital city the ottoman empire. The location of Istanbul lead the remander of the Byzantine empire into the ottomans control
