Muhamud of Ghazni
Leader of the Turks in Afghanistan. Raided temples in India for treasure and after destroying Hindu and Buddhist temples, he built mosques on top of them. This didn’t bring converts into Islam but it decreased Buddhism in India.
Delhi Sultanate
Mahmud’s successor. He attempted a less forcful aproch to conqure Northern India and place it under Islamic rule. He made Delih a Islamic capital which allowed Islam to secure a spot in India for Islamic Faith.
Vijayanagar
Kingdom in Southern India
it was divided with no centralized government, but it benifited from trade, social structure and inherited cultural traditions. Later it allied with the muslim kingdoms.
Dhows and Junks
Advancements in ships that allowe sailors to go into the ocean and away from the coast. Dhows were made to hold 100 tons of cargo, Junks could carry 1,000 tons of cargo. Resulted in allowing merchants to trade longer distances with larger amount of cargo directly and without a middle man.
Hindu Devotional Cults
Some devoted themselves to one Hindu deity. Often Vishnu or Shiva. These people hoped to achieve a connection with the gods that would bring salvation. Hindus acepted the cults because of the promise of salvation. A lot of images of Shiva show the god giving people food and drinks. This all resulted in a large amount of temples and shrines in the landscape of Southern India.
Bhakti Movement
Syncratism between Islamic and Hindu faith. It resulted in appealing for both Hindus and Islamic people. Trying to make the two religions harmonize.
Angkor
home to the famous Angkor Wat monument. It shows the influence of Indian traditions in South Eastern Asia. The city was designed to depict Hindu world order. Later Buddhist temples were added.
The city is an example of the political, cultural, and religious influence in southeast Asia.
Melaka
A region the supported Islamic faith by sponsering missionary campains. It’s georaphical location was a large influence on trade and naval influence. The navy protected traders but also brought in taxes on ships.
