Frankish Kingdom

A

created an organized imperial state. the empire didn’t ast long but they had a strong influence on western Europe politicaly, socialy, and culturaly. Most importantly they helped to keep Roman Christianity alive in western Europe.

Charlemagne

A

“Carolus Magnus’ (the Emperor of the Romans) about 800s, he wanted to bring bach the Roman Empire. he reestablished centraized imperial rule after the society was troubled by invadors and political disputes over land. He relied on aristocratic deputies known as counts. Because he had to spend time traveling, to maintain authority, he depended on the Conts who held political, military, and legal authority in kocal jurisdictions. Before his death his Empire spread to Northeastern Spain, Bavaria, and Italy.

Vikings

A

They were skilled crafts men, and designed boats that carried large amount of Viking warrior and their looted treasure across stormy seas and even through tight winding rivers. The perticuarly raided monestaries because many people donated oney and gifts to the monks, and because it wasn’t as heavily protected like large cities. Excelent marksmen and traders.

Lord/ Vassals (“feudal’ System)

A

Political

It was local form of government. Lords ruled over their own land and relied on Vassals to provide military servises, and be obidiant and loyal to their lord. In return Vassals recieved land (fiet). On man occasions a Vassal would rebel against their lord and take the land they were given and defend it. The lords usually did nothing because they had no army.

manor system

A

Theiir is a land lord who owns the estate, and his tennants who were free pesants and or surfs. The mannor system came with strick rules for surfs. A lan lord would collect taxes from the surfs, and the surfs get the use of the land and owe labor. A surf would always stay with the land even if it was sold or traded ad they could have a family.

Benedictine Rule

A

First started in Monte Cassino, near Rome. It provded the monastic life with a set of rules and regulations. The rules weren’t hard to fallow it mostley requiered monks to take vows to lead a cimunal, celibate life. The main virtues are poverty, chastity, and obidience. This rule also requiered monks to do eitherwork, meditate or pray
