Chapter 20: Heart Flashcards
Wall of Heart
Epicardium (visceral pericardium)
Myocardium
Endocardium
Atrioventricular valves (tricuspid valve, mitral valve)
prevent backflow from contracting ventricles to the atria.
Semilunar valves (pulmonary valve, aortic valve)
open when ventricular pressure exceeds pressure in pulmonary trunk or aorta, close to prevent backflow from the arteries
Systemic circulation:
Blood supply to all cells of the body except the air sacs of the lungs.
Pulmonary circulation:
Blood supply to air sacs of the lungs only.
Coronary circulation:
blood flow to myocardium (part of systemic circulation)
Pacemaker of heart:
Sinoatrial node (SA node)
Conduction system
Atrioventricular node (AV node)
P wave, T wave, QRS complex:
atrial depolarization (p)
ventricular repolarization (t)
ventricular depolarization (qrs)
Systole
contraction
Diastole
relaxation
Stroke Volume (SV)
the volume of blood ejected from a ventricle during systole
Cardiac Output (CO)
the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle each minute
CO= SV X heart rate
CO (ml/min) = SV (ml/beat) X heart rate (beats/min)
Heart rate (HR) is adjusted by…
autonomic nervous system:
Parasympathetic (slows hr)
Sympathetic (raises hr)
