What is El nino
In the pacific when weaker trade winds don’t cause the normal temperature difference from east to west in the ocean. cancels it out
This changes the weather which follows the warm water into the middle of the pacific and then has a knock on effect on Normal global winds
La nina is
The opposite to El nino when westerly winds are higher pushing the warm waters towards australia and the associated bad weather.
Cold air pools are
When polar air depressions have moved south and become detached
they can last several days and are not visible on low level surface charts
typical heights 10-30000 feet
very unstable
