Chapter 2 (Section 2) Flashcards
The Structure of the Nervouos System
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Includes the brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- Connects the brain and the spinal cord to other parts of the body.
- Brings information to and from the central nervous system
Part of ANS
Sympathetic
Division of the ANS that arouses the body to mobilize it for action, preparing the body to react and expend energy under conditions of threat or stress
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)
Branch of the PNS that governs involuntary action of organ functioning by sending messages to and from the body’s internal organs and monitoring processes
Part of ANS
Parasympathetic
Serves to regulate and return autoonomic funtion to a normal state or homeostasis
Somatic Nervous System (SNS)
Branch of the PNS that sends sensory/afferent information from the skin and muscles to the CNS and back out to our efferent neurons that governs our voluntary muscles
