Chapter 2 - Medallion inheritance Flashcards
What are the three hypotheses of inheritances?
- Pangenesis
- blending hypothesis of inheritance
- Mendel’s law of inheritance.
What is Hybrid?
hybrid is produced when two organisms that differs in particular trait mate with each others
How did Mendel interpret his experiment’s result?
- He refuted the blending mechanism
- genetic determinant that govern a trait are inherited as a discreet unit (gene) and remain unchanged as it is passed from parents to the off spring.
- law of segregation.
When does the process of law of segregation occur?
It occurs during the process that gives rise to gametes (meiosis).
What are alleles?
They are different version of the same genes.
What is genotype?
It refers to the allelic composition of individual.
What is phenotype?
It refers to the observable trait in an individual.
What is the law of independent assortment?
The two different genes will randomly assort themselves during the process of meiosis.
What is the loss of function alleles?
They defective copies of genes.
What is the pedigree analysis?
It is used to determine the pattern of inheritance trait in humans.
Genes that play role in disease can exist as:
- genes that does cause the disease and encode normal functional proteins.
- mutant alleles that caused the symptom of the disease.
What is the product role?
it says that the probability of two or more independent event occurring is equal to the product of their respective probabilities.
What is the Chi square test?
It is a test that determine goodness of fit.
