Chapter 14 - Gene Regulation in Bacteria Flashcards
What is Activator?
It is a protein bound to cis acting regulatory DNA element such as a promoter or an enhancer, activate a transcription of adjacent promoter.
What is a repressor?
It is a protein that binds to a cis acting regulatory DNA element and prevent transcription.
What is an Operator?
It is a DNA element at the end of an Operon that is the binding site of a repressor.
What is an Allosteric site?
It is a site on a protein that bind a small molecule which causes the protein to change its confirmation that modifies the activity of its active site.
What are the allosteric effector?
They are small molecule that bind to the allosteric site.
What is allosteric transition?
It is the change of confirmation of a protein to another.
What is indcution?
It is a relief of repression of a gene or set of genes under negative control.
What are inducers?
They environmental agents that trigger transcription from an operon.
