What is Surface-Level Diversity?
Visible differences like gender, race, or age that don’t show how people think or feel but can lead to stereotypes
What is Deep-Level Diversity?
Differences in values, personality, and work style that matter more as people get to know each other
What is Discrimination?
Noticing differences between people
often used to describe unfair treatment based on stereotypes about their group
What is Stereotyping?
judging someone on the basis of our perception of the group to which that person belongs
What is the Stereotype Threat?
the degree to which we are concerned with being judged by or treated negatively based on a certain stereotype
What are Biological Characteristics?
Personal traits like age, gender, or race that are easy to see and found in records.
They reflect surface-level diversity
What is Positive Diversity Climate in an Organization?
an environment of inclusiveness and an acceptance of diversity
What is Ability?
an individual’s capacity to perform the various tasks in a job
What are Intellectual Abilities?
The capacity to do mental activities - thinking, reasoning, and problem solving
What is General Mental Ability (GMA)?
A measure of overall intelligence based on how different mental abilities are linked together
What are Physical Abilities?
the capacity to do tasks that demand stamina, dexterity, strength, and similar characteristics

The process where managers help everyone understand and respect each other’s differences and needs
