The five factor model - five personality traits
1) openness to experience (creativity, curiosity, experimentation
2) Conscientiousness - persistence, self discipline, consistency
3) Extroversion - outgoing, socially confident, articulate
4) Agreeableness - altruistic, humble, patient, sensitive
5) Neuroticism - pessimism, jealousy, fear, self-critical
Emotional intelligence (EI) aka emotional quotient (EQ) definition
the ability to recognize, interpret, and manage emotions in oneself and others
Four domains of EI
SELF AWARENESS - the ability to perceive emotions in oneself and others accurately.
SELF MANAGEMENT - ability to use emotions to facilitate thinking
SOCIAL AWARENESS - understand emotions, emotional language, and the signals conveyed in emotions
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT - ability to manage emotions so as to attain specific goals
Three types of empathy
Cognitive (understanding what the client knows and understands);
emotional empathy (being attuned to understanding what the client is feeling);
empathic concern (ability to sense what another person needs from you)
