  • precontemplation = unaware change is needed, not thinking of changing, 6 months
  • contemplation = recognize change needed, most significant change, don’t know where to start, 6 months
  • preparation = plan, specific, haven’t started, seek resources, 30 days
  • action = make measurable change, adopt plan, make mistake, 6 months
  • maintenance = consistent, can fall back, life-long
    (5 years=termination, most likely to not relapse)

  • later majority = 34%, 4th to adapt, skeptisism
  • laggards = 16%, 5th to adapt, very skeptical, high value on traditions, no social contact
