What is job performance?
the value of the set of behaviors that contribute, either positively or negatively, to organizational goal accomplishment
What is task performance?
employee behaviors that are directly involved in the transformation of organizational resources to the goods or services that the organization produces
What are the three types of task performance?
Routine, Adaptive, Creative
What is creative task performance?
Doing something outcomes that are novel and useful.
What is adaptive performance?
employee responses to task demands that are novel, unusual, or unpredictable
What is citizenship behavior?
voluntary employee activities that may or may not be rewarded but that contribute to the organization by improving the overall quality of the setting in which the work takes place?
What are the six types of citizenship behavior?
Voice, Civic Duty, Boosterism
Helping, courtesy, sportsmanship
What is counterproductive behavior
employee behaviors that intentionally hinder organizational goals
What are the three types of job performance?
Task performance, Citizenship Behavior, Counterproductive behavior
What are the four types of counterproductive behavior?
-Production deviance (Wasting time/sub. abuse) -Property Deviance (Sabotage/Theft) -Political Deviance (Gossiping/Incivility) -Personal Agreesion (Harrasment/Abuse)
What is management by objective?
management philosophy that bases an employees evaluations on whether th employee achieves specific performance goals.
What are the specific facets of MBO?
- Employee meets with manager to develop a set of mutually agreed upon objective that are measureable and specific
- Set a time and method to do so
Behaviorally anchored rating scales measure performance how?
directly assessing job performance behaviors (Difference between effect/ineffective behaviors)
What is the difference between MBO and BARS?
BARS focuses on behaviors while MBO focuses on results
What is 360 degree feedback?
collecting performance information not just from the supervisor but from anyone else who might have firsthand knowledge about the employee’s performance behaviors
