Chapter 2 Flashcards
tunning fork test
compare the hearing of the patient to that of a presumably normal-hearing examiner
Name the three main parts of the ear
inner ear, middle ear, and outer ear
What is the connection between the inner ear and the brain?
auditory nerve
cochlea
part of the inner ear that is responsible for hearing
attenuation
a decrease in the strength of a sound
conductive hearing loss
The loss of sound sensitivity produced by abnormalities of the outer ear and/or middle ear
sensorineural hearing
loss of hearing sensitivity produced by damage or alteration of the sensory mechanism of the cochlea or the neaural structures that lie beyond. formerly called nerve loss.
mixed hearing loss
a sensorineural hearing loss with superimposed conductive hearing loss. The air-conduction level shows the entire loss the bone-conduction level, the sensorineural portion; and the air-bone gap, the conductive portion.
Tuning fork tests
scwabach test,
rinnie test
weber test
bing test
Does the tuning fork produce sound at different frequencies or a particular frequency?
particular frequency
