Muscle & Headaches
Herpes Simplex
Cutaneous viral infection w/ painful vesicles & erosions on the tongue, palate, gingiva, buccal membranes, or lips
AKA “Cold Sore”
Rhinosinusitis

Acute Pharyngitis
The sudden painful inflammation of the pharynx
Usually caused by viral infection
Clinical Manifestations of Acute Pharyngitis
Fiery red pharyngeal membrane & tonsils
Swollen lymphoid follicles flecked w/white-purple exudate
Enlarged & tender cervical lymph nodes
No cough
Epistaxis
Hemorrhage from the nose
Risk Factors for Epistaxis
Local infections
Systemic infections
Drying of nasal membranes
Nasal inhalation of corticosteroids or illicit drugs
Trauma
Arteriosclerosis
HTN
Tumor
Thrombocytopenia
Use of aspirin
Liver disease
