What did the 14th Amendment do?

A

It protected the citizenship to African Americans provided by The Civil Rights Act of 1866. It guaranteed that citizenship could no longer be taken away by passing another law, and made clear if that a state barred any adult male from from voting, it could lose some representation in Congress.

Describe the Radical Republicans’ Reconstruction Act of 1867.

A

It required that the states who haven’t ratified the Amendment to form a new state government.It divided the 10 states into military districts. Each district would be governed by an army general until new state governments were formed.

A

Johnson had suspended Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, the cabinet official in charge of the military and a supporter of Radical Reconstruction. This action violated the Tenure of Office Act.
