  • immediate response to allergen
  • also called anaphylactic
  • reagin: IgE class

Mechanism of activation

A
  • 1st exposure to allergen: makes IgE antibodies that bind to mast cells and basophils. These cells become sensitized
  • 2nd exposure to allergen: degranulation occurs and histamine is released by basophils and mast cells

- Allergy (itchy rash, hives, runny nose)
