Chapter 14: The Hip and Pelvis Flashcards
Femoral Neck Stress Fracture
A rare stress injury to the bony matrix in the formal neck of the femur usually due to repetitive stress or overload.
Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
Head of femur displaces relative to neck of femur
Hip Pointer
Contusion and associated hematoma to the superior/anterior portion of the iliac crest. (also known as a iliac crest contustion)
Osteitis Pubis
Inflammation of the pubis symphysis joint, causing pain, possible dysfunction, and degeneration.
Hip Dislocation
Head of the femur fully displaces from the acetabulum
Avulsion Fracture
Piece of bone is pulled off by tendons or ligaments likely due to strong forces.
Labral Tear
Tear in cartilage surronding hip or shoulder point.
Femoracetabular Inpingment (FAI)
Pinching of tissues around the hip joint due to the femoral head not being congruent with the acetabulum.
Snapping Hip Syndrome
A lateral hip pain with only certain motions caused when soft tissue “snaps” over the great trochanter of the femur.
Trochanteric Bursitis
Bursitis of the trochanter bursa due to the tight lateral soft tissue of the hip.
Testicular Torsion
Twisting of the testicles from traumatic or nontramautic events.
Hernia
Protusion of a part of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening.
Public Aponeurosis
Complex fascial layer fromed by a confluence of fibers from the rectus abdominus, adductor longus, gracills, transverseus abdominus and internal oblique (conjoint tendon), and external oblique.
