Older persons tend to define themselves as dying. They may deny death or they may be able to know they are dying before anyone else.
Family members may deny death. They may perceive the elderly of dying long before they do.
Physicians may make a terminal diagnosis and then tell the patient before intimate death.
What do gerontologists mean by “social death?” How does this differ from physical health?
Social death is the perception of others when they perceive the person as being dead before they’re physical bodies are dead. Physical health on the other hand often precedes the social death.
What role can reglion play in helping a person cope with dying?
Religions focus on how one should live their life in the face of death. They present an account for what to expect after death.
What is the relationship between grief and mourning?
Grief is the sense of profound loss and the experience of deep sorrow while mourning expresses grief in the public.
What are some of the conditions that determine the experience of grieving?
Depends on how a loved one died, whether it took place suddenly or over time, the age of the individual, and the relationship between the two.
Compare the experience and behaviour of men and women after the death of a spouse?
Men often remarry younger women and tend to not live alone.
Women often don’t remarry and keep more to themselves
