Gender roles show that women are less likely to play in sports due to the lack of a male partner and how women had a lack of past opportunities to engage in these sports to grow an appreciation for them.
Education level defers In high school diploma vs a secondary education as they show the most involvement in popular culture activities. Those with university degrees often read more. Low education showed a lack of involvement with these activities
Health influences showed that those who were physical capable and had a lack of illness took part in more activities then those who had a illness or poor physical health.
What policies and programs would encourage seniors to stay active?
Coming up with programs that include a wide variety of seniors with different levels of engagement would encourage staying active with either physical activity or with the community. Encouraging the health benefits of staying active also could contribute.
Why do programs like Road Scholar appeal to seniors?
It combines the unviersity education and the travel component of learning in order to emphasize environmental and cultural awareness in a learning method that caters to older individuals way of learning. The classes are more accessible and time-limited to fit their schedules and offer more on-hand approaches to learning.
Compare the use of computers and the Internet by younger and older people
Older people use the internet usually to connect with family and friends.
Younger people use the internet to gain information, connect with friends, and many more usages.
What do researchers mean when they talk about a digital divide among older people?
As new uses for information technology emerge, they will attract more people of all ages, closely that digital divide.
What could be done to reduce or eliminate the digital divide
Make websites and the internet more accessible to seniors
Teach classes on how older individuals can use the internet
Provide awareness to services provided by the internet to older individuals
What benefits do older people gain by volunteering?
It allows them the chance to contribute to their community and to society, giving way to meeting new people and to avoid social isolation.
Provides people a sense of purpose and psychological well-being
Good mental health, stronger social networks, and high life satisfaction.
What challenges do organizations face as they relay more on volunteer help?
They will need to adapt volunteer roles to suit more Baby Boomers and be able to meet their individual needs.
