Chapter 13 - Cataractogenesis Flashcards
What is the most common type of cataract caused by radiation?
Posterior subcapsular
How are cataracts forms from radiation?
Radiation damages the epithelium cells which cause abnormal division causing weird fibers to be created. These fibers migrate to the posterior pole of the lens
Latency is affected by?
Dose
Cataracts are what type of effects?
Deterministic
- Has a threshold
- Dose deteremines severity
What does NCRP stand for?
National Council of Radiation Protection and Measurment
What does ICRP mean?
International Commission on Radiological Protection
ICRPs recommended threshold dose for cataractogenesis?
0.5Gy acute
5-8 Gy if fractionated
Occupational exposure limits to the lens is?
Avg 20mSv over 5 years with no one year over 50mSv
NCRP doses for occupational exposure is?
50mGy
