Chapter 12.1: Solids Flashcards
Polyhedron
a solid that is bounded by polygons.
Face
enclose a single region of space.
Edge
a line segment formed by the intersection of two faces.
Vertex
a point where three or more edges meet.
Surface
consists of all points on its faces.
Convex
a polyhedron is convex if any two points on its surface can be connected by a line segment that lies entirely inside or on the polyhedron.
Regular Polyhedron
a polyhedron is regular if all its faces are congruent regular polygons, and the same number of faces meet at each vertex in exactly the same way.
Tetrahedron
a regular polyhedron with four faces.
Octahedron
a regular polyhedron with eight faces.
Dodecahedron
a regular polyhedron with twelve faces.
Icosahedron
a regular polyhedron with twenty faces.
