Chapter 3.5: Properties of Parallel Lines Flashcards
Transversal
a line that intersects two or more co planar lines at different points.
Corresponding Angles
two angles are corresponding angles if they occupy corresponding positions, such as angle 1 and angle 2.
Alternate Interior Angles
two angles are alternate interior angles if they lie between l and m on opposite sides of T, such as angle 2 and angle 8.
Alternate Exterior Angles
two angles are alternate exterior angles if they lie outside l and m on opposite sides of T, such as angle 1 and angle 7.
Consecutive Interior Angles
two angles are consecutive interior angles if they lie between l and m on the same side of T, such as angle 1 and angle 5.
Postulate 15 - Corresponding Angles Postulate
if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of corresponding angles are congruent.
Thm. 3.6 - Alternate Interior Angles Thm.
if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of alternate interior angles are congruent.
Thm. 3.7 - Consecutive Interior Angles Thm.
if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of consecutive interior angles are supplementary.
Thm. 3.8 - Alternate Exterior Angles Thm.
if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the pairs of alternate exterior angles are congruent.
Thm. 3.9 - Perpendicular Transversal Thm.
if a transversal is perpendicular to one of the two parallel lines, then it is perpendicular to the second.
