- reports: by government organisations or trustworthy organisations. reports are syntheses of information as part of a review process.

- data sets: Include materials that have been converted to quantitative data and perserved in filed suitable for analysis with statistical software (survey responses)
- big data: data sets with milions of pieces of information, typically created through individual interactionswith technology
