Chapter 12: Corrective Strategies for the Knee Flashcards
Patellar Tendinopathy
Often associated with jumper’s knee, commonly an oversuse injury affecting the patellar tendon resulting in anterior knee pain.
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
A musculoskeletal condition in which a client experiences pain behind and around the patella with running, squatting, jumping other physical activity.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
Often associated with runner’s knee, usually an overuse injury where the iliotibital band rubs on the femur resulting in lateral knee pain.
Extensor Mechanism
Composed of the patellofemoral articulation, patellar tendon, quadriceps tendon, and tibial tubercle working together to produce concentric, eccentric and isometric actions at the knee.
Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury
The ACL is one of the main ligaments that stabalize the knee, designd to stabilize anterior translation of the tibia relative to the femur. Injuries often take the form of over-stretching or tearing due to sudden lower extremity movements such as stops, changes of direction, rotation, etc.
Patellofemoral Syndrome
Abnormal tracking of the patella within the femoral trochlea or patellar groove.
