Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance)
Which sacrament…
- sins committed after Baptism are forgiven through the priest
- reconciled to God and others (members of the community) after committing sin
- for serious sins (mortal sins)- individual confession with absolution is necessary
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Truth: God is happy when we repent, he would rejoice when we come back to him, he is always there for us and ready to accept us
Parable of the Lost Sheep
Truth: God loves you so much that there will be rejoicing in heaven when you repent

Truth: God loves us so much that he will forgive you if you repent so that you can live with him eternally in heaven; all of us are sinners; we are both of the sons

What does the penitent receive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation?
- receive God’s forgiveness
- receive grace (share in God’s life) so they can change and be more loving
- receive forgiveness of the community who has been harmed by our sin

there is no individual confession, penance, or absolution
