Why is rice such an important symbol to the Japanese?
It was used as a currency many years ago; a lord’s status was determined by how much rice his region produced, a person’s worth determined by how much rice they grew, and a land’s worth determined by how much rice it could grow.
What were the ‘Dark sides’ to nature in the Japanese view?
Tsunamis, typhoons, volcanoes, and earthquakes.
