PAR-Q
A test designed to screen out those clients from not participating in physical activities that may be too strenuous for them.
Dyspnea
The medical term for shortness of breath.
Syncope
Fainting during exercise
Orthopnea
Trouble breathing that happens when lying down.
Edema
Swelling
Tachycardia
Rapid beating of the heart.
Brachycrdia
Slowed beating of the heart.
Intermittent Claudication
Severe calf pain that happens when walking.
Heart Murmurs
Unusual sounds that are caused by blood flowing through the heart.
Age (CVD risk factor)
45 or older for men and 55 or older for women.
Family History (CVD risk factor)
Family history of myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, or sudden cardiac death.
Smoking (CVD risk factor)
If the client currently smokes cigarettes, quit smoking within the last 6 months, or if he or she is exposed to secondhand smoke on a regular basis.
Sedentary Lifestyle (CVD risk factor)
A sedentary lifestyle is defined as not participating in a regular exercise program nor meeting
the minimal recommendations of 30 minutes or more of moderate physical activity for 3 days a week for 3 months.
Obesity (CVD risk factor)
A BMI greater than 30 or waist circumference over 102 cm in men and 88 cm in women.
Hypertension (CVD risk factor)
Either number of blood pressure equal or greater than 140/90.
