Chapter 11: Muscles of the Trunk Flashcards
What are the three Erector Spinae Muscles?
“true back muscles”
- Iliocostalis
- Longissimus
- Spinalis
the function of the erector spinae muscles
maintain posture, keep you upright, balance, extend trunk
the attachment of the iliocostalis group
ilium of the pelvis
insertion of the iliocostalis group
the angle or body of the rib all the way up the rib cage
attachment of the longissimus group
fascia of the lumbar region, thiradorsal fascia or thoracolumbar fascia (triangle in the small of the back)
Spinalis group attachment
thoracolumbar fascia
spinoallis group insetion
the transverse process of on the length of the vertebral column
inervation of the true back muscles
dorsal rami
the functions of the deepest back muscles
extension, flextion, and rotation
inervation of the deepest back muscles
dorsal rami
intransverarii are located where?
between the transverse processes
rotatores are located where?
attach to the spinous processes to the tranverse proccess of the one below
multifidus are locted where?
the spinous processes of one vertebra to the transverse of the one after the one skipped below
interspinales is locted where
in between spinous processes
what is Lina Alba?
- tough, thick fibrous band that extends from the xiphoid processes to the pubic symphysis
- the central tendon, attachment of the oblique muscles
- thick because there are so many tendons attached (3 on each side)
where are the rectus abdominals
- two on each side of the lina alba
- from the coastal cartilage to the pubic tubricals
- small tendons (tendonous intersections) perpandicular to the lina alba, inersect the muscle, giving the “8 pack” appearence
explain the external oblique
the most superficial layer
- contain adoneurosis (sheet like tendon, borad attachment to lina alba)
- tissue adjacent to rectus
explain internal oblique
- fibres run at oblique angles
- just internal to external oblique
- attaches to lina alba via it;s apondeurosis (which splits around the rectus)
explain the transverse abd. muscles
- fibres run perpandicualar to the lina alba
- apondeurosis runs behind the rectus
what is the ingenial ligament?
an extension of the oblique muscle
the external fibre dirrection
toward the front pockets
-anteriorly, medially, inferiorly
external inserect onto?
illiac crest, pubic symphsis
the external originates from?
the costal cartilage
the internal dirrect is:
toward the back pockerts
the internal originates from?
the iliac crest and the lumbar vertebra
the internal inserts onto?
costal region
the transverse oringates?
costal region, lumbar vertbrae, iliac crest
the transverse inserts onto?
the lina alba
the function of the layes of abdominal side muscles
- trunk flexion, extension, rotation
- changes in abdominal pressure
