Emotional – Coping effectively with life and creating satisfying relationships.

Illness is being diagnosed as sick while disease is physical damage within our body

Stress: Stress can not only mask symptoms of illness but can make people attribute stress for physical illness when its actually physical illness

Personality: People Higher in neuroticism are more likely to report a medical condition

Gender: Women visit the doctor more than men

Stigma: They don’t to be labeled as weak, ill or incapable or be around someone weak ill or incapable

Age: Older people go to the doctor more than younger people
Religiosity: Religious people attribute everything to God so they don’t go to the damn doctor

Symptomology: If the symptomology is more easily recognized then people are more likely to go

A

Patient related factors: Self efficacy, not understanding the severity or condition o the disease. Those high in conscientiousness adhere better to treatment plans
Physician-Related factors : Doctors over-complicating the process or not properly explaining the the side effects of drugs. Lowering medication costs, a follow up call help as well as a pillbox
Health System/Team building related factors: Just living in America, the health system is fucking awful

Advocate for yourself. Learn about your condition and the medications you are taking.

Use one pharmacy to fill your prescriptions.

Use reminders, or as we called them in Module 6, prompts and/or antecedent manipulations, to remember when to take your medications.

Track your medications as to when and how you take/took them.

Use of Natural Products – This includes herbs, probiotics, and vitamins.
Mind and Body Practices – This includes massage therapy, visiting a chiropractor, yoga, acupuncture, relaxation techniques, and meditation.
Other Approaches – This includes traditional healers, Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, and naturopathy
