Q
What are the components of the endocrine system?
A
Endocrine glands and chemical signals
1
Q
List the functions of the endocrine system?
A
- Controls homeostasis
- Maintains water balance (kidneys play a big role)
- Controls uterine contractions
- Controls milk production
- Regulates ions (calcium, sodium, potassium)
- Regulates metabolism and growth
- Regulates heart rate and blood pressure
- Monitors blood glucose levels
- Aids the immune system
- Reproductive functions
2
Q
What type of epithelial tissue are glands made from?
A
Cuboidal epithelial tissue
3
Q
Where do endocrine glands secrete their products?
A
Secretes their products directly into the bloodstream.
4
Q
What are chemical signals?
A
Molecules that are released from one location, move to another location, and produce a response.
5
Q
Explain the difference between intracellular and intercellular signals?
A
Intracellular- produce from one part of a cell and move to another part of the same cell.
Intercellular- released from one cell and bind to receptors on another cell.
