Chapter 10 - Communication Mgmt Flashcards
What is the difference between communication technology, communication methods and communication channels?
Communication technology: specific tools, systems, computer programs etc. Examples: conversations, meetings, written documents etc.
Communication methods: a systematic procedure, technique or process. Examples: interactive communication, push communication, pull
Communication channels: the connection between stakeholders, where total channels is n(n-1)/2 where n=number of stakeholders incl project manager
What is the difference between a work performance report and a project report, and which process produces each?
A work performance report is the output of the monitor and control project work process
The project report is a technique of the manage communications process and is more an ad hoc report (though it can be prepared regularly) that provides information about the project.
My interpretation: work performance report = how much budget have we used, project report can be a weekly status update, what are the challenges etc. Or a workshop read out document
What is the main benefit of the Manage communications process?
It enables an efficient and effective information flow between the project team and the stakeholders
What are examples of communication blockers?
- noisy surroundings
- distance
- improper encoding of messages
- language
- culture
