What is standing still?

A

if you do stop your car voluntarily then it is standing still.
-It may be divided into standing still for a short while or standing still for a longer period of time

A
  • standing still in order to allow passengers to get in or out immediately
  • standing still in order to load or unload goods immediately

*driver must remain with the vehicle and doesn’t stand still longer than is strictly necessary

what is parking?

A

All other types of voluntary stopping is called parking

  • putting vehicle in a space or in front of your house and leaving it there
  • Parking also means stopping for a short moment at a shop to do your shopping or staying in the car to wait for a passenger

Where to stand still?

A

in appropriate places such as parking lanes or parking spaces.

  • Be on right side of road
  • Left is allowed but not advised unless no other option
  • One ways it’s okay to do on left side because no oncoming vehicles (though be careful of bicycles etc)

-If sign has supplementary road sign with an arrow, it means the prohibition only applies in the direction indicated by the arrow

-along with signs E1 and E2, there are other places you can’t park..

Stopping prohibitions

A

No stopping when:

  • bends, slopes under flyovers etc
  • sections on road for other road users (footpaths, cycle paths etc)
  • junctions/level crossings
  • pedestrian crossings
    • on or within 5 meters of pedestrian crossing
  • bicycle lanes
  • bus lanes/routes
    • not on roadway next to either
  • bus stops
    • along entire length of block marking.. if no block marking not within a distance of 12 meters.. May drop someone off/pick up if no bus is impeded but have to move immediately if bus comes

  • Motorcyclists may overtake but only at 10km/h (left or right)

Conditions to be allowed to tow a vehicle

A
  • must have license and experienced
  • distance between two vehicles must not be larger than 5m
  • strong cable is sufficient unless brakes are defective
  • connected via towing eye or towing hook
  • hazards on both cars
  • speed is low
  • drivers aware that acceleration takes more time and space
  • drivers leave trunk road/motorway at next exit and go to repair shop via local and prov roads
  • towing vehicle must be at least equally powerful as the vehicle being towed

  • gently tilt back and pinch nose

  • for deep state of unconsciousness
  • You need first aid certificate to administer CPR
  • Rate should be 100 compressions per minute.. But do 30 compressions and give two breaths. Repeat

Severe bleeding

A
  • keep victim lying down
  • stop bleeding by lifting injured limb and apply pressure directly to wound for at least 10 minutes
  • use sterile dressing to bandage wound. use anything else if don’t have it (towel, clothes, hand)
  • press the artery in position between heart and wound
  • Dress wound with emergency bandage and with pressure

  • first degree
  • second degree
    • blisters
  • third degree
    • dullish white or black and burn doesn’t hurt - just around it does

Administering first aid to burns

  • cool burn for 10 minutes under running lukewarm water
  • cool burn only
  • remove clothes sticking to burn
  • call doctor if blisters, skin is affected and if burns have been caused by chemicals or electricity
  • no application of anything
  • dress with sterile bandage or clean cloth
  • no eating or drinking and keep in sitting position

  • european claim form is compiled by various insurance companies in EU to standarize reports of damage
  • Wise to keep copy but not mandatory
  • Form consists of instructions, and may fill in there or at home
  • If insurance works with intermediary may work with him
  • Both sign after rechecking it but not obliged to.
  • are obliged to give personal info about yourself and vehicle to other party.
  • completing form helps in determining blame for accident
  • police will right out extensive claim form, including a discription of circumstances under which the accident took place. form is then sent to the hague..

in some cases police will draw official report but usually only with serious accidents which will lead to court decisions

  • release seatbelt - or cut w knife - emergency hammer is good to have
  • shatter window on side - if cant - get out by roof or back window
  • leave car - backing out facing roof - children out first
