Chapter 1 - Introduction to Biomechanics Flashcards
What is Biomechanics?
Bio = life
Mechanics = study of the actions of forces
Hence, biomechanics is the study and analysis of the mechanical aspect of living organism/life.
What are the 4 Branches of Biomechanics?
1) Statics
2) Dynamics
3) Kinematics
4) Kinetics
What is Statics?
It is the Study of systems in constant motion.
(including zero motion)
What is Dynamics?
It is the Study of systems that are subject to acceleration.
What is Kinematics?
It is the Study of the description of motion.
( does not include force only motion e.g. acceleration, speed, distance etc.)
What is Kinetics?
It is the Study of the actions of forces (e.g. moments, torque, etc.)
What is Kinesiology?
it is the Study of Human Movement
What is Sports medicine?
Sports Medicine Encompasses both clinical and scientific aspects of exercise and sports
What is Qualitative?
Data that pertains to the quality of something. does not involve numbers.
What is Quantitative?
Data that involves numbers to describe the performance
What is Anthropometric?
It is the Study of the size, shape and weight of body segments
