Define Project Management
The process of applying knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to describe, organize and monitor the work of a project to accomplish the goals of the project
What are the characteristics of a project
- Have a definite beginning and end
- Must meet certain criteria
- Produces a unique product or service
- Resources are dedicated to the project.
Define Customer
The end-user or recipient of the product or service of the project. Can be internal or external to the company.
Define business case
Determines if a project is financially beneficial to an organization
Functional organization
- Hierarchical
- clear chain of command
Project Oriented Organizations.
- Focuses on projects

Matrix Organization
- a Mix of the two main organizations
PMO
A centralized organization unit that oversees and guides the management of projects and programs throughout the organization
What do PMOs do?
- Provide PM methodologies, templates, forms and standardized processes
- trains PMs
- facilitates communication across projects
- Manages resources
- documents the project
