Presentism
To interpret and assess the past only in terms of present understanding
Historicism
To interpret and assess the past in terms of knowledge and values in existence at the time of the event.
Internal History
what is written occurs entirely within the discipline of psychology. This approach has the value of providing detailed descriptions of the evolution of theory and research but it ignores those influences made outside psychology that also influenced the discipline.
External History
This approach takes outside influences that shaped the discipline of psychology.
Zeitgeist
The overall intellectual and cultural climate of a particular era
Personalistic History
The idea that the important events in history result from the heroic (or evil) actions of individuals and without the individuals history would be vastly different.
Eponyms
a person after whom an invention or a discovery is named after.
Naturalistic history
An approach emphasizing the forces of history that influence individuals.
Multiple
Two or more individuals that independently make the same discovery.
Historiography
To write history.
Secondary Source
A document that has been published and is typically an analysis or summary of some historical event, person, or period
Primary Sources
These are usually found in archives. They are first person accounts of some historical event, person, or period
Archive
An area within a university library that holds unpublished information
