Law made from other deciding court cases
Stare Decisis
Requires lower courts to follow case law in deciding similar cases
Administrative Regulations
Government bodies required to carry out particular laws Ex. Social security, controlled by executive branch
Civil Law
Group of laws used to provide remedy for wrongs individuals. Problem between you and one person, doesn’t affect society
Torts
Private or civil wrong for which laws grant a remedy
Crime, Criminal Law
An offense against society, a group of laws that defines and sets punishment for offense
Substantive Law
Defines rights and duties such as murder, theft, and negligence
Procedural Law
Deals with methods of enforcing legal rights and wrongs
Business Law
Covers rules that apply to business situations and transactions. -Uniform Commercial Code
