Chap 16 Flashcards
Motivating operation
alters the effectiveness of some stimulus, object, or event as a reinforcer; alters the current frequency of all behavior that has bene reinforced by that stimulus , object, or event
Value-altering effect
an increase in the reinforcing effectiveness of some stimulus, object, or event, in which case the MO is and EO; or a decrease in reinforcing effectiveness (AO)
Behavior-altering effect
An increase in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus, object, or event (aka evocative effect); or a decrease in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus, object, or event (aka abative effect)
Antecedent variables (including MOs and SDs) alter the ________________ frequency of a behavior, whereas consequence variables (reinforcers and punishers) alter the _________ frequency of the preceding behavior.
Current; future
Repertoire-altering effect
Reinforcers and punishers affect the future frequency of whatever behavior immediately precede those consequences
MOs and SDs are similiar in that they are both ___________________ variables that alter the current frequency of some behavior, as well as _____ variables.
antecedent; operant
______ are related to the differential availability of a currently effective form of reinforcement for a particular type of behavior; ____ are related to the differential reinforcing effectiveness of a particular type of environmental event
Discriminative stimulus; Motivating operation
