Chap 13Schedules of reinforcement Flashcards
Continuous reinforcement
a schedule of reinforcement that provides reinforcement for each occurrence of behavior.
Intermittent schedule of reinforcement
reinforcement for some, but not all, occurrences of the behavior.
Fixed ratio schedule of reinforcement
produce reinforcement after the completion of a number of required responses.
Postreinforcement pause
Participant does not response for a period of time following reinforcement
Limited hold
Added to an interval schedule to make reinforcement available for a finite time following the elapse of the FI or VI interval (e.g. FI 5min LH 30s)
Differential reinforcement of high rates (DRH)
Delivery of the reinforcer contingent on responses occurring at a rate higher than predetermined criterion
Differential reinforcement of low rates (DRL)
Responses are reinforced only if they are lower than the criterion
Differential reinforcement of diminishing rates (DRD
Provide reinforcement at the end of a predetermined time interval when the number of responses is less than a criterion that is gradually decreased across time intervals based on performance
Progressive schedule of reinforcement
Systematically thins each successive reinforcement opportunity independent of participant’s behavior (can be used to identify relative reinforcement effects)
Compound schedules of reinforcement
Combine the elements of different reinforcement schedules
Concurrent schedules of reinforcement (conc)
When two or more contingencies of reinforcement operate independently and simultaneously for two or more behaviors
Multiple schedule (mult)
present two or more basic schedules of reinforcement in an alternating, usually random sequence
Chained schedule (chain)
Similar to a multiple schedule but the basic schedules in a chain always occur in a specific order; the behavior may be the same for all elements of the chain; conditioned reinforcement for responding in the first element in a chain is the presentation of the second element; last element produces reinforcement
Mixed schedule (mix)
Similar to multiple but there is no discriminative stimuli correlated wit the independent schedules
