Chap 10 Flashcards
Iron deficiency anemia- the causes, manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatments
FTD plz- fatigue, tachycardia, dyspnea, pallor
Iron deficiency- decreased dietary intake, malabsorption, blood loss, (only FTDP effects) lab test, tx= iron rich foods and Iron supplements
Pernicious anemia (B12) anemia- the causes, manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatments
Megaloblasts (immature nucleated cells) short lifespan, deficient of intrinsic factor owing to immune reaction, s/s: Neuro damage, achlorhydria, tongue red and enlarged, decreased gastric acid. Shillings test, oral supplements, B12 injections
Aplastic anemia- the causes, manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatments
Recessive inheritance impairment or failure of bone marrow, temporary or permanent condition: s/s general anemia (FTDP) leukopenia, thrombocytopenia( petechiae, flat, red, pinpoint hemorrhages on skin)
Dx: blood counts
Tx: tx of underlying cause, removal of bone marrow suppressants, blood transfusions
Sickle cell anemia- the causes, manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatments
Inherited leading to abnormal formation of hemoglobin (african american and middle east) the cells sickle s/s: (ftdp) jaundice, enlargement of the spleen, damage to organs and tissues, lung infections, occlusion of small blood vessels, growth and development delays
Dx: blood test
Tx: folic acid, hydroxyurea, avoid strenuous activity
Thalassemia deficiency anemia- the causes, manifestations, diagnostic tests, and treatments
Most common genetic disorder: gene mutations
S/s: increased hypo chromic and ftdp
Dx: chorionic villus or amniocentesis
Tx: blood transfusions
Difference between primary and secondary polycythemia and effects on blood
Primary: increased production of RBC neoplastic disorder- new CA growth
Secondary: bodies response to low O2 increase of RBC
Describe hemophilia A: its patho and S/s
Deficit of factor 8, x linked, manifested in men recessive trait in women
S/s prolonged bleeding after minor injury
Tx: replacement of factor 8, DFAVP-desmopressin
Acute Leukemia
Effects children non functional cells lots of blast cells onset usually abrupt
Chronic leukemia
Occurs in adults some blast cells higher proportions of mature cells
Terms describing abnormalities in the blood
Leukocytosis- increase in WBC
Leukopenia- decrease in WBC
