Chap 1-3: Inquiry Skills Flashcards
What is an Observation?
Is information from your senses
To observe is to look at carefully
What is an inference?
It is an untested conclusion based on your observations or prior knowledge.
What is to predict?
Using your knowledge to make a guess
What is to compare?
Describe how things are different and the same.
What is to classify?
To sort based on similarities
Why do you use numbers in science?
Numbers in the lab help scientists be accurate / exact / precise
Why do you formulate or use models?
We create models to help us understand how something works and we can make changes to those models.
What does measuring do?
It allows you to compare your results to others.
What is a hypothesis?

What is the Scientific method and explain the steps?
It’s a way that scientists find out how things work and affect each over.
The 5 steps help test ideas:
1-OBSERVE and ASK questions 2-Form a HYPOTHESIS 3-PLAN an EXPERIMENT 4-CONDUCT an EXPERIMENT 5-Draw CONCLUSIONS
