A
The process of people moving away from urban areas to smaller settlements and rural areas.

Why did Cardiff’s inner-city become deprived?
A
Cardiff docks reached their peak in 1913 exporting 13.5 million tonnes of coal. This dropped rapidly after WW1. With the closure of the East Moor Steelworks as well, unemployment in this area rose. Low income, racial prejudice and ageing housing stock led to the bay areas (Butetown and Grangetown) becoming zones of discard. This also led to a spiral of decline
