What is income for CALWORKS?
Income is defined as any benefit in cash or in-kind reasonable anticipated to be available and receive as a result of current or past labor, business activities, interest from real or personal property, contributions form pensions, organizations, or agencies.

Self-employment income; what deductions can person take to get to net income?
person can choose 40% standard deduction or they can choose actual verified expenses. (Must show receipts)

What counts as unearned income?
An unearned income that is not earned or disability-based unearned income.
UIB.
Cash gifts.
Non-Disability Based Social Security Benefits.
Death or Survivor’s benefits.
Dividends.
Permanent Worker’s COmp, etc.
How is income treated for Excluded HH members?
The income of the parent is considered when the parent is living in the home but is excluded from the AU.
Needs are only considered when person has income.
SSI/SSP or CAPI recipients income is not counted.
Income of penalized or sanctioned persons in the AU is counted in the grant computation.
How is in-kind income calculated?
In-Kind is calculated by based on if the person used it full calendar month.

What income is excluded and exempt?
Earnings of a child.
Loans.
Student loans and grants.
College work study.
Child/Spousal support disregard (CSSD). 1 kid =$100. 2+ kid =$200 max.
Child support court ordered to pay.

What money is disregarded on the Big Map-Applicant Eligibility Test?
$450 per each earned income family member.

What form is used to calculate the big Map Applicant Eligibilty test?
CW 29 Test form
On the Little Map Recipient test how much money is the disregard and how is it to be used?
$600. Take from SDI first. If no one in house has SDI then take $600 from earned income. This gets NNI
What is NNI stand for?
Net Non-Exempt Income
What do we compare the NNI to?
Little MAP AU HH count to the amount in the Little MAP in desk aid.
