What applications/forms can the customer use to apply for CALWORKS?
SAWS 1, SAWS 2 PLUS, and MyBCW
What is the application date we use as the date of application?
The application date is the date that the application s received by the County.
Who can apply for CALWORKS?
Any person has the right to apply for aid, either on his/her behalf or on the behalf of another. A person can submit an application regardless of whether they appear to be eligible for aid.
Can an applicant be denied on the spot if they appear to be ineligible?
No. An interview must be completed.
Must an applicant only apply for themselves?
No. Someone else can also apply for them.
What does FTP stand for?
FTP stands for Failure to Provide.
If a case has been denied for FTP (failure to provide) and the County receives a required verification within 30 calendar days of the denial, does the closed case need to be rescinded to the effective date of the application?
Yes
Does a face-to face interview with the applicant be required prior to granting aid, including Immedate Needs payments?
No, phone interviews may be done as well.
Do all CALWORKS applicants have a BPAI referral?
No. Only BPAI referrals are requested when application sounds fraudulent.
What does BPAI stand for?
BPAI stands for Bureau of public Assistance Investigation
How many days does the determination of eligibility for CALWORKS be made?
45 days
What is DIVERSION? How often can it occur?
It is a one time payment that can occur once every 12 months to help out family that would qualify for CALWORKS up to 3 months of benefits.
Would a customer need to provide verification of their child’s school attendance?
No, they would never have to provide school attendance records
What would a SAR household, who has a 17-year-old move back into the house what would it be considered?
It would be considered a voluntary mid period change
CalWorks does not allow them to make mid-period changes to occur if it’s going to have a negative impact on an a household benefits. So if a customer called and said that they were okayed for UIB for $3000, would it be considered mandatory or voluntary change?
It would be a voluntary change because it would negatively impact the benefits
